Welcome back to school! This week has, of course, been a get-in-the-groove week. Next week will be somewhat more typical of a week in fourth grade, adding in more of the regular routine. If you’re interested, you can find our Team Handbook on our blogs (where you are reading this newsletter). Please note that we have not yet updated it with changes that pertain specifically to this school year, so bear with us while we work on that as time allows.
You can expect an electronic newsletter similar to this one, detailing what we’ve been up to each week, what you can expect for the following week, and other relevant (we hope) information for families.
For now, an excerpt from the Team Handbook about food:
Snacks: Each day we will carve out time for children to have a (hopefully) healthy snack break. This will take place in the morning. If you feel it’s necessary, your child can bring in a bottle of water, from which s/he can sip throughout the day. However, there are water fountains in each classroom, and we discourage other beverages for throughout-the-day consumption.
Birthday treats: Please feel free to send in a birthday treat on or near your child’s birthday. Please send in individually-wrapped, easy-to-distribute snacks, such as cupcakes, juice boxes, cookies, fruit kabobs. Though fun for a birthday party, we won’t have time or help to slice a cake, scoop ice cream, or evenly cut a giant cookie. Each class has 22 students this year.
Food allergies: If your child has a food allergy and may not be able to have treats sent in from other families, one option is to keep a stash of treats in the classroom. We can keep containers in our classrooms to have your treat at the ready in case your child can’t, or isn’t sure if s/he can, have a classroom treat.
We look forward to seeing you Thursday night!
